The Adelaide is an interesting venue for bands, because it offers bands at entry level – meaning the ones who are starting to come out of their garages to play in front of a live audience – the opportunity to test their skills. Because it’s a bit out of the way, the financial gains of this are limited both for the venue as well as the bands, thereby limiting the level of gear available. But it’s a good testing ground, with plenty of space for a party to go underway, if the crowd is that way inclined, and I have seen it happen!
The Roulettes on Saturday night were as enthusiastic as you could be in front of a crowd of a dozen, maybe a few punters more or less. I’m sure their set would have benefited much from an experienced sound person on the PA, but despite that one thing really struck me: Ben has got the coolest voice! I do hope they make the most of it while working on their first album, aiming to be released towards the end of the year.
