After a VERY long time without, I had been with some great musicians last month. A very fortunate constellation of stars meant I finally got to see and hear Matt Langley and that same night experience a group of musicians on their Rough House Revival tour.
As I was working my way through Matt’s performance, my external hard drive died on me and the remaining material is gone. Not completely fortunately, as I still got the tapes, but for now I’m stumped and have to make do with what I got. Which is four tracks from his upcoming new CD, Virginia Avenue. Hopefully coming out this year. When it does, and the ensuing CD release tour, I will be shouting it from the roof tops. Well, here and Facebook roof tops that is.
You might get the impression I like him? You’re right! Not only is he a great singer and songwriter, but a nice chap as well. The nice chap part you have to take my word for it, but as for the music, have a look and judge for yourself:
Last week, or was it three ago (?), time flies when trying to keep the kids busy at home, I managed to finish a video for Darren Watson & The Real Deal Blues Band. They were playing Tutweiler by Rick Holmstrom at the now defunct Ruby Lounge in Wellington, New Zealand.
It was supposed to be The Black Keys with The Greenhornes opening for them. That didn’t happen as the Keys cancelled due to exhaustion. Even though I was MIGHTILY disappointed I can understand, they’ve had an incredibly exhausting 2010, touring most of it. But the people at Bar Bodega managed to pull a fast one and there I was, seeing the Greenhornes live for the first time. Not knowing their sound intimately, but having heard in an interview that their live performances are quite a treat to experience, I was quite intrigued to hear and see for myself.
Gradually the crowd was warming up and getting whipped into a decent frenzy by their songs. And so was I, well as much as in a frenzy as one can be while trying to photograph. And I have to say, as much as I enjoyed listening to the CD’s, I definitely enjoyed the live stuff MORE!
So, what’s happened in the last couple of months? More than I can manage to process in my part-time capacity as music blog video maker! But I’ve got some to show you, so fear not. First up a couple of promo clips for Elston Gun, taken during various sessions in the past year. The titles were done by Charl Laubscher, and I think they’re hot! Also, I’ve got a couple of clips of The Lost Boys, when they opened for Elston Gun together with the The Slur Tones, who opened my eyes and ears to new bands to stalk, ahem follow their progress.
For work in progress: well the latest gig by The Checks in Wellington and the Slur Tones, and I am soooo going to try and get some more of the Homegrown footage processed. Which would be Pluto, Motocade and Bang Bang Eche!
It’s LIVE. You can view and vote for my video here. You need to create an account or sign in using a couple of other social sites like facebook, twitter, etc before you can vote, and it would be HIGHLY appreciated if you took the time to do so. If you like what you see, knock yourselves out and vote the letters off your keyboards.
The ranking process is a bit complex, you might have to “vote” a couple of times in case you can’t see my entry at the first go. It took me 3 times to be able to rank myself at #1 😀
In addition I’m getting some more videos ready from Homegrown, and another couple of live gigs I saw in the last months.
